FRAUD DIVISION TOLL FREE 1-877-372-8315The Insurance Fraud Act of 1994 gave rise to the Insurance Fraud Division. This division is charged with the responsibility of conducting criminal investigations and prosecutions of insurance fraud violators. These violators include individuals who defraud insurance companies as well as dishonest insurance representatives who steal from or otherwise defraud the consumer. The division provides a focal point for the anti-fraud efforts. Insurance company investigators, other law enforcement agencies and the public are brought together to achieve a cooperative and coordinated approach to insurance fraud investigation and prosecution. The Fraud Division has established an excellent relationship with the Attorney Generals Office and has two assistant attorneys general assigned to its staff on a full-time basis to prosecute insurance fraud violators. The division has increased public awareness about insurance fraud and is actively soliciting the continued cooperation of the public. The division receives numerous calls per week from the public reporting suspected insurance fraud. Many of these calls result in criminal investigations and prosecutions. The Fraud Division is recognized as an official law enforcement agency in the State of Utah and investigators for the division are special function law enforcement officers. Each has Police Officers Standards and Training (POST) certification. The Insurance Fraud Division has created a web site and maintains current statistics and stories of interest for the public and law enforcement. To report a possible fraud go to http://www.ifd.utah.gov/Main page.htm. For further information about insurance fraud nationally go to, Coalition Against Insurance Fraud.
